Founded in 1996, Argo provides a stable, sophisticated structure that allows clients to take risk in an efficient environment. Our turn-key operation allows you to rent a segregated cell, and you eliminate the need to form separate legal entities. In addition, Argo’s professionals are in place to handle every aspect of running your captive operation.
Entities looking to take risk have a few options available to them. For one, these entities could create their own captive insurance company. Doing so would entail, among other things, establishing the legal structure needed, hiring professionals to manage the captive, including captive managers, actuarial firms and auditing firms, and providing significant working capital.
Argo makes this process much less cumbersome. Argo provides a turn-key operation that enables its clients to quickly, efficiently and effectively take risk. Renting a segregated cell eliminates the need to form separate legal entities and Argo’s professionals are in place to handle every aspect of running a captive operation. And Argo’s capital base and sterling reputation among regulators reduces the capital needs of its clients.
Group captives serve as an attractive strategy to allow like minded groups to pool their smaller risks together to create a larger risk pool. By aggregating risk, participants decrease volatility and stabilize their risk profile.
Not all risks are created equal. When producers realize that some, or all, of their clients offer an attractive risk profile, there is a natural desire to participate in underwriting this risk. Enter Argo. Producers can open a segregated cell in Argo and have issuing carriers cede risk to their cell on the business they produce. Interests are perfectly aligned and underwriting risks, and profits, are available.
Establishing a captive facility is relatively simple. With almost 25 years’ experience, Argo has earned the wisdom that can only come with age. Argo can help clients quickly and effectively form a vehicle to take risk.
Clients execute a contract with Argo to establish a segregated cell. Program details are shared, information about shareholders is obtained and pro forma financials can be developed.
Insurance and Reinsurance Companies issue policies or treaties with the underlying risks. Once comfortable with the underwriting being done on the front end, Argo monitors the program to ensure that participants are following the plan.
Reinsurance treaties are executed between the Insurance or Reinsurance Companies and the newly formed segregated cell. Argo monitors premiums and claims and provides reports to clients, typically on a quarterly basis.

While their underlying businesses might be different, all of Argo’s clients seek the same thing: a trusted business partner that will help them take risk efficiently and professionally. The examples to the right highlight Argo’s approach and expertise.
15 companies in the health care industry sought to pool their risk and share in any underwriting profits. A segregated cell was opened in Argo. The Insurance Company writing the stop loss insurance over each of the company’s health plans executed a reinsurance treaty with Argo and ceded the majority of the stop loss risk to the newly formed segregated cell.
A managing general underwriter wanted to take risk on all of the business they were underwriting. The MGU established a segregated cell within Argo. The carriers they were representing, happy to make sure interests were aligned, ceded a portion of all of the business underwritten by this MGU into Argo.
A broker watched for years as insurance companies earned significant underwriting profits on the business he produced. Argo helped the broker create a segregated cell and facilitated the ceding of some of the risk from the insurance companies to the broker’s cell.
